Tour Details - 6 Day Lake Eyre and Flinders Ranges 12/13

Day 1. Arrive Adelaide, Port Augusta
Arrive at Adelaide airport before midday and board your 4WD vehicle for the journey north to Port Augusta, known as ‘the Crossroads of Australia’.

Day 2. Quorn, Marree
Journey back in time at the Wadlata Outback Centre for an insight into the history of the South Australian Outback, before travelling to Quorn. This small town was once the railway crossroads of the nation, where the east-west Indian Pacific line crossed with the north-south Ghan line. Later, continue to the ruins of Kanyaka Station - a former sheep station that dates back to 1851. Afterwards, drop in to the Prairie Hotel in Parachilna, enroute to Marree.

Day 3. Lake Eyre
Today is sure to be a true highlight as you board an included scenic flight from the Marree airstrip over Lake Eyre, taking in views of this rare natural event of Lake Eyre full with water. Upon your return to Marree, enjoy a delicious BBQ lunch at the Marree Hotel, before taking a 4WD sightseeing tour, passing through Muloorina Station, to the edge of Lake Eyre’s stunning shoreline, where you’ll see the spectacular array of wildlife that flocks here each time the lake floods. When it does flood it becomes the largest lake in Australia. In the past 150 years Lake Eyre has only filled to capacity three times.

Day 4. Parachilna Gorge, Blinman, Wilpena Pound
Visit beautiful Parachilna Gorge, stopping in for lunch at the Blinman Hotel. Blinman is an old mining town dating back to 1859 when copper was discovered in the region. Later, continue to Wilpena Pound, a natural amphitheatre of mountains in the heart of the Flinders Ranges.

Day 5. Wilpena Pound
Take a scenic drive through the Bunyeroo Valley, here you’ll notice the impressive razorback ridge and enjoy views of sweeping plains covered in native pine trees. Then visit spectacular Brachina Gorge, one of the most popular attractions in the Flinders Ranges. Later, perhaps walk into Wilpena Pound or take a scenic flight over Wilpena Pound (own expense).

Day 6. Clare, Adelaide
Journey via the picturesque towns of Hawker, Wilmington and Melrose on your journey south before stopping for lunch at Clare (own expense). Located in the heart of the Clare Valley, Clare is one of South Australia’s premier wine regions. Then continue to Adelaide airport, where your tour concludes on arrival at approximately 5.30 pm.
