Introduction
Explore in 10 days some of the highlights of Australia with a visit to the Harbour City of Sydney, the awesome Uluru (Ayers Rock) and a city tour of Alice Springs then finish relaxing in tropical Cairns with a cruise on the Great Barrier Reef.
Tour Itinerary
Day 1. Sydney
Be welcomed on arrival and transferred to your hotel.
Day 2. Luncheon Harbor Cruise, City Sights and Southern Beaches Tour
Enjoy a luncheon cruise on Sydney Harbour. This afternoon, tour the city and its beaches.
Day 3. Sydney at Leisure
You have free time today to explore Sydney or you could visit the Blue Mountains or Hunter Valley on an APT day trip (all activities at own expense).
Day 4. Sydney, Alice Springs Town Tour
Transfer to Sydney airport for a flight to Alice Springs (arriving by noon, airfare not included). Be met on arrival and then enjoy a town tour.
Day 5. Camel Farm, Cultural Centre, Base Tour, Sunset Drinks at Uluru, Ayers Rock
Driving south, visit a camel farm for a ride on a camel (own expense). Turning west, view the flat-topped Atila (Mt Conner) en route to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. This afternoon, visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre and Maruku Arts and Craft Cooperative. Travel to the waterhole of Mutitjulu for a guided walk, viewing ancient cave paintings. Join the guided Mala Walk to learn the story of the Mala (Hare Wallaby) people who once lived at Uluru. As you tour the base of Uluru, visit Kantju Gorge, a waterhole and old hunting ground. Tonight, admire the magnificent view of the sun setting at Uluru as you enjoy a glass of wine.
Day 6. Uluru Sunrise, Kata Tjuta (Olgas)
Rise early and enter Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park to witness Uluru at sunrise. Watch as the colors change on this Aboriginal sacred site, and one of the world’s largest monoliths. Later, travel to the western section of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park to the immense 36 rock domes of Kata Tjuta. Enjoy a guided walk into Walpa (Olga) Gorge, where you can learn of the domes’ formation and a chance to spot the wildlife of the region.
Day 7. Uluru, Cairns
Spend the morning at leisure before flying to Cairns (airfare not included) and be met on arrival.
Day 8. Great Barrier Reef Cruise
Enjoy a full-day cruise to the Great Barrier Reef aboard a luxury Reef Magic catamaran, giving you time to fully appreciate the reef, one of Australia’s greatest treasures. Enjoy privileged access to one of the region’s most pristine Outer Great Barrier Reef locations. Here, you can snorkel with tropical fish, visit the Underwater Reef Viewing Observatory, or step aboard a reef-scenic helicopter flight (own expense). Enjoy a buffet lunch on board.
Day 9. Cairns at Leisure
You have the day free to relax in Cairns or enjoy one of the many nearby attractions on an APT day tour. You could travel to the World Heritage-listed Daintree Rainforest and visit the Rainforest Habitat Wildlife Sanctuary and Mossman Gorge before continuing onto Cape Tribulation beach where the rainforest meets the reef. Perhaps enjoy a ride aboard the Kuranda Scenic Railway and the Kuranda Skyrail Rainforest Cableway (all activities today are at your own expense).
Day 10. Cairns
Enjoy the morning at your leisure. Perhaps do some last minute shopping or wander around the tropical town before transferring to the airport for your flight.
