Tour Itinerary

Day 1. Broome, Boab Prison Tree, Tunnel Creek, Windjana Gorge.
Depart Broome to begin your exploration of the awe-inspiring Kimberley region. At Derby, visit the Boab Prison Tree, believed to be more than 1,500 years old. Journey on the Gibb River Road, a remote outback highway that accesses some of the Kimberley’s best scenery. At Windjana Gorge, where sheer cliffs tower above white sands, see the ancient marine fossils embedded in the gorge walls. You may also see freshwater crocodiles lazing on the banks of the Lennard River, which runs through the gorge. Travel to remarkable Tunnel Creek, a 750 metre-long natural tunnel carved through the Napier Range. With torch in hand, wade through the cool waters to view the wonderful oasis that awaits on the other side. Then continue to Fitzroy Crossing.

Day 2. Geikie Gorge Cruise, China Wall, Halls Creek.
Enjoy the morning exploring Geikie Gorge, where annual flooding has created a bleached effect on the limestone walls. Join a unique cruise along this stunning gorge, then travel the Great Northern Highway to the historic gold mining town of Halls Creek. See the unusual China Wall, formed out of quartz.

Day 3. Purnululu National Park, Echidna Chasm, Bungle Bungle Range.
Depart Halls Creek and head for Purnululu National Park. The journey takes you onto the Spring Creek 4WD track. Hike into Echidna Chasm, a spectacular cleft in the rock massif. Enjoy the unique wilderness experience of staying within the national park without having to rough it.

Day 4. Cathedral Gorge, Piccaninny Creek.
Hike into Piccaninny Creek and spectacular Cathedral Gorge. Walk among the beehive domes, as your guide brings the natural history of the range to life. Learn of bushtucker, bush medicine and the area’s significance to local Aboriginals. There’s also time for an optional helicopter flight (own expense). Enjoy drinks and watch the sun set over the domes.

Day 5. Kununurra.
Fly from Purnululu National Park to Kununurra (flight included).

Day 6. Mitchell Plateau, Little Mertens Falls, Rock Art, Mitchell Falls, Scenic Helicopter Flight.
After an early morning hotel pick-up, depart Kununurra, the eastern gateway to the Kimberley, by light aircraft at approximately 6 am. Your scenic flight lands on the remote Mitchell Plateau. Transfer to the exclusive Mitchell Falls Wilderness Lodge for a delicious breakfast. After a short drive, the adventure continues with a local guide sharing knowledge and fascinating stories of the region as you begin your exploration of the Mitchell Plateau. It is one of the most pristine sites on the remote Kimberley coast, due to it being accessible only by air or 4WD. Spending time at the plateau is one of the most rewarding experiences available in the Kimberley. You’ll have the chance to walk to Little Mertens Falls before continuing through woodland to inspect ancient and rarely viewed Aboriginal Gwion (Bradshaw) rock art paintings. Take in the breathtaking views as you continue to stunning Big Mertens Falls. The incredible spectacle of Mitchell Falls is created by the Mitchell River flowing over the massive plateau into the deep pools below. Enjoy a relaxing swim. After lunch, hike out of the falls or take an included scenic helicopter flight over stunning Mitchell Falls. Longer scenic flights along the beautiful Kimberley coast are also available (additional expense).

Day 7. Scenic Flight to Kununurra.
After breakfast, board a scenic flight that takes you over the dramatic landscapes of the Kimberley region. Take in the vast horizons of this frontier country before arriving in Kununurra.
