Tour Details - 5 Day The Great Kimberley Air Odyssey 2012

Day 1. Windjana Gorge, King Leopold Ranges and Bell Gorge.
This morning begin your exploration of the awe-inspiring Kimberley region. Board your plane and fly from Broome to beautiful Windjana Gorge. Here, meet your Kimberley Wilderness Adventures guide, who will take you on a fascinating escorted walk through the gorge. Windjana’s sheer cliffs tower above white sands and still waters and you’ll discover ancient marine fossils embedded in the gorge walls. You may see freshwater crocodiles lazing on the banks of the Lennard River, which runs through the gorge. Your guide will provide a fascinating insight into this stunning landmark. Continue by 4WD along the Gibb River Road, which takes you on a scenic journey through the King Leopold Ranges to Bell Gorge. Enjoy a leisurely walk into this dramatic gorge, in which rugged cliffs surround a series of tiered waterholes. Take a swim below the waterfall which feeds the lower pool or perhaps go bird-watching. Later this afternoon, drive to nearby Bell Gorge Wilderness Lodge and spend some time at leisure in beautiful surrounds, before enjoying a delicious dinner tonight.

Day 2. Purnululu National Park, Echidna Chasm, Piccaninny Creek and Cathedral Gorge.
This morning fly to World Heritage-listed Purnululu National Park, home to the striking beehive-shaped domes of the Bungle Bungle Range. Journey by 4WD to Echidna Chasm and hike into the chasm, which is a spectacular cleft in the rock massif. Marvel at the perpendicular cliffs surrounding you. After lunch, walk along the dry river bed of Piccaninny Creek and then hike into majestic Cathedral Gorge. Wander among the famous orange and black striped domes, as your guide brings the natural history of the range to life. Learn about bush tucker, bush medicine and the area’s significance to local Aboriginals. Enjoy drinks and watch the sun set over the Bungle Bungle Range, before returning to your conveniently located accommodation for a delicious dinner and a relaxing evening.

Day 3. El Questro Wilderness Park, Zebedee Springs, Chamberlain Gorge.
Farewell the Bungle Bungle and enjoy a sensational flight to El Questro Wilderness Park – a million-acre cattle station in the Kimberley wilderness. You have the entire day to explore the wonders of stunningEl Questro. This morning, join El Questro Station staff and walk to beautiful Zebedee Springs where you can enjoy a rejuvenating soak in the natural thermal pools here. Relax in the lush setting of Zebedee Springs, which are surrounded by luxuriant ferns and verdant Livistona palms. Later, join a local guide for a cruise through Chamberlain Gorge, flanked by towering cliffs and rocky escarpments. With the assistance of your guide, look out for the varied wildlife that inhabits this serene fresh waterway. After a relaxing and informative day, return to the peace and comfort of your bungalow accommodation at El Questro, situated close to the cool oasis of Pentecost River.

Day 4. Mitchell Falls, Gwion (Bradshaw) Art, Helicopter Flight over the Falls.
Fly to Mitchell Falls National Park and take a guided hike to Little Mertens Falls and Big Mertens Falls before arriving at Mitchell Falls. When available, local Aboriginal guides will join us. Enjoy a swim in the pools above the falls. We have included a helicopter flight over Mitchell Falls back to the vehicle (or, if you prefer, hike back with your guide). Longer helicopter flights over the coastline are available at additional expense.

Day 5. Horizontal Falls, Cape Leveque, Broome.
Depart Mitchell Falls Wilderness Lodge on a remarkable flight over some of Western Australia’s most impressive coastline. Highlights include stunning aerial views of the unique Horizontal Falls. These tidal waterfalls are situated deep in Talbot Bay, in the Buccaneer Archipelago. As intense tidal waters sweep through two narrow coastal gorges, a waterfall effect is created, resulting in the powerful Horizontal Falls. Then continue your flight over a rugged coastline of precipitous cliffs, studded with blissful bays to Cape Leveque. Once you have landed and before lunch, take a fascinating tour of the ocean’s crystal-clear shallows on board a glass-bottomed boat, with the opportunity to view the stunning marine life inhabiting these waters. Afterwards, enjoy a relaxed lunch in one of the most remote and magical corners of the globe, located on the tip of the Dampier Peninsula, north of Broome. Surrounded by peaceful, sandy shoreline, this is the perfect stop-off with ample free time in the afternoon to snorkel (own expense) or to swim. Finally, enjoy another breathtaking flight along pristine coastline back to Broome. Here your tour-of-a-lifetime draws to its conclusion.
