Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Darwin - Kakadu National Park Depart Darwin at 6.30am. Turning off the Stuart Highway we travel along the Arnhem Highway into Kakadu National Park. Cross the South Alligator River to explore the World Heritage Area of Ubirr where we climb up through the ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries to the lookout for the view over surrounding wetlands. Visit the Bowali Visitor Centre with its informative displays and continue to Cooinda to join Kakadu’s fabled Yellow Water Wetlands Cruise to experience the beauty of Kakadu. Day 2: Kakadu Culture Camp Today’s highlights include a fascinating visit with Aboriginal traditional land owners from the East Alligator region of Kakadu, at the Kakadu Culture Camp plus spectacular views and pristine freshwater environs. Drive from Cooinda to Djarradjin Billabong, meet our hosts and transfer by boat across the beautiful billabong to a secluded bush site and enjoy learning about the traditional Aboriginal way of life. Hear intriguing stories about Aboriginal history, the language and the interpretation of the seasonal cycles of the bush. Learn a few secrets of the sources and preparation of ‘bush tucker’ and perhaps have a try at throwing a hunting spear. Later in the day, we venture off the beaten track to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge), where a 2km return walk through paperbark forest leads to a small waterfall and clear plunge pool with the opportunity to swim. This walk is graded moderate with difficult areas requiring some agility in rougher parts of the track. Late afternoon we make our way out of Kakadu National Park, returning to Darwin on the old 4WD Jim Jim Road. L Tour Dates
